The proposal to form a

WholeCare Academy

It is proposed to develop educational and training courses in the whole person approach to health care through the formation of the WholeCare Academy, which will concentrate solely on students who wish to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in the application of whole person medicine.

A development committee has been convened, in January 2009, which brings together WholeCare, the Acorn Christian Healing Foundation and Burrswood Christian Hospital. In the future we would also wish to include other similar organisations.

It is our intention to seek affiliiation with a suitable higher education institution in order to accredit the courses we offer.

Students would be able to attend individual modules in an informal capacity, take the core modules which will constitute a one year Diploma course, or complete the full three year course leading to a university degree (depending, of course, on suitable accreditation of the Academy).

Suggested course of study
YEAR
1 12 core modules will be offered to enable students to gain a broad understanding of the principles and practice of the whole person approach to health care
2 3 SSMs (Special Study Modules) will be selected out of those offered which will enable students to explore one area of health care to a suitable depth
3 In the final year three compulsory modules will be completed which combine work experience, case studies and individual research

Decisions which need to be made by the Development Committee-

  • Who will be the "core" staff of the Academy.
  • Which modules will constitute the core year of study.
  • Who will lead each of these modules.
  • What are the second year Special Study Modules, and who will lead each one.
  • What will the third year modules consist of.
  • Proportion of the course which will be by distance learning.
  • Residential portions of the course - where and how long?
  • Arrangements for local tutorial groups.
  • The Work book should follow the core module structure, and each author needs to be the lead teacher for that module.
  • Content of the Resource book of background material.
  • Which higher educational institution do we approach for accreditation?
  • Finances and business case.
