Burrswood is a Christian Hospital and Place of Healing situated just outside Tunbridge Wells. It was founded by Dorothy Kerin in 1948.

Burswood originated as a Christian Healing Centre with the capacity to care for people who need nursing care, and it has developed to provide whole person care as a registered hospital. But it has never relinquished its specific Christian identity and spiritual life, considering that it has to be more than a place with a Christian ethos.

In practice, it takes people of all faiths and none, and imposes Christian faith upon none. But the care staff are almost all Christian, and the model of care specifically addresses the spiritual, emotional and physical. It is delivered by a closely integrated team comprising doctors, nurses, counsellors, chaplains and physiotherapists.

All patients have the opportunity for prayer from members of the team (not just chaplains), and attend the twice weekly healing services - though none are pressured to do so.

The medical care allied to the spiritual effectively provides the marriage of care and prayer, ministry and medicine. Some patients respond dramatically to prayer and so need less care! Others respond dramatically to the loving care, and open up to prayer as a consequence.
